This is the movie from the Opening Ceremony for APRM2017 Japan. The opening act was performed by Gakuto Chiba. The instrument he was playing is called “Tsugaru Shamisen” in Japanese. Tsugaru is an area in the north of Japan, and shamisen is a three-stringed Japanese traditional musical instrument. He is 18 years old, and he won the first prize at Shamisen players competition when he was 15 years old. The music he played at the beginning was “Tsugaru jongara bushi”, which is a popular folk song. He played this music as a solo song in his own arrangement.
